The Community Food Bank in Tucson, Arizona serves all of Pima County – a 9,000 square-mile region. Procuring and distributing over 13 million pounds of food to nearly 200,000 people per year is not easy task. Their overall budget is $22 million, with about $4.5 million in cash.
The Community Food Bank hired WriteForChange to manage its grants program, and help them produce winning proposals. We worked with the Development Director, Chief Financial Officer, and Executive Director to build a compelling Case for Support. This evolved out of discussions that identified the strategic goals of the institution, and the areas in need of funding.
Members of the Management Team worked with us to put in place reporting and review procedures that allow smooth grants management. Part of this engaged us to reorganize filing of current and previous grants. We began to communicate regularly with donors and funding organizations, a key to successful fundraising. Each communication allowed us to refine and target our proposals to funding sources that share the Food Bank’s mission.
In the first year of our partnership, WriteForChange assisted the Community Food Bank in obtaining $1.7 million in foundation and government funding.
