Formation of a Nonprofit Grant Writing Cooperative
Susan Feathers is exploring whether WriteForChange can serve the grant writing needs of organizations in NW Florida through a cooperative structure.
A colleague put forward the idea recently as we reflected on the fact that few nonprofits are willing or indeed, able, to invest in a grant writer on a regular basis. In a cooperative, many organizations pay a minimal fee while gaining access to the services of an expert they cannot afford to hire alone. The key will be to limit the number of organizations in the cooperative to make it worth the investment.
Because the process of building a grant writing program in your fundraising plan is a multi-step process, WriteForChange is formulating a service that will provide comprehensive support and consultation as well as regular resource opportunities. Grant Writing Works will offer organizations a free seminar once a quarter covering topics such as Novel Approaches; Your Story Told; When and How to Use Statistics; Creating Objective Means of Evaluating Your Impact; Blogging and Social Marketing; Making a Contribution to Your Professional Community.
Members of the cooperative will also gain access to information on how to write a comprehensive Organizational Profile, Program Descriptions, Key Personnel; Building Sustaining Partnerships that demonstrate your organization's or project's sustainability.
Susan will also bring other supporting services to the cooperative as needed: marketing and branding experts; information architects and web designers; journalists; professional evaluation centers; event planners.
The cost to a member organization will be $50 per month or $600 per year.
